Policies & Procedures

Last Minute Cancellations

Lessons canceled by the teacher or by the student will be given a make-up lesson at the earliest convenience. Please note that canceled lessons are made up for by a rescheduled lesson and not by a refund.

Arriving Late to your Lesson

Lessons will begin immediately upon the student's arrival, even if late. However, to be fair to all students, a full lesson may not be guaranteed if a student arrives late. No refunds or discounts will be given to students who are late. Please be respectful of the teacher and other students' time.

Payments

Invoices for lesson fees will be sent via email on a monthly basis during the last week of each month. Acceptable forms of payment include e-Transfer and credit card payments. Fees are due before the first lesson of each month. There are no discounts or refunds given for missed lessons. All sales are final, and any outstanding credits will be made up by Romeo Music's services.

Cancellations With Notice

If you need to cancel or arrange a make-up lesson for a date during next month's billing cycle, please let me know during your in-person lesson or at sammy@romeomusic.ca at least one week before the beginning of the new month. This ensures you won't be charged for lessons you won't be attending.

Discontinuing Lessons

If you wish to discontinue your lessons with Romeo Music, please let me know during your in-person lesson or at sammy@romeomusic.ca at least one week before the beginning of the new month. Students will not be refunded their lesson fees if they choose not to attend their final pre-paid lessons.

Pickup & Drop Off

Parents are welcome to stay and sit in on their child's lesson, or leave and return at the end of the lesson. If you are dropping off your child, please ensure they have safely made it inside the lessons facility. When you pick your child up, please make sure you return before or at the end of the lesson. Children will not be sent away without their parent's arrival. However, with back-to-back lessons and limited studio space, please be respectful of the teacher and other students' time by making it a priority to be on time to pick up your child. Romeo Music is not responsible for supervising your child before and after lessons.

Lost or Stolen Items

Romeo Music is not responsible for any lost or stolen items inside or outside the lessons facility. Please ensure you keep any belongings with you that are brought inside the studio. Lost items will be kept for a maximum of 30 days after being found by the teacher. An email may be sent out in an attempt for students to claim their lost items. Unclaimed items after the 30-day period will be donated or thrown away.

Damages

Romeo Music is not responsible for any damages to items or instruments that occur before, during, or after the lesson time, as well as any damages to parked vehicles parked outside.

Injuries

Students, parents, and legal guardians waive the right to any legal action for injuries sustained inside and outside of the lessons facility; before, during, and after the lesson. Examples of injuries could include slips and falls, hearing loss or damage developed over long periods of time, or injuries caused by playing your instrument with improper technique, developed over long periods of time.

Student Expectations

Beginner students taking lessons will be required to purchase an instructional book recommended by the teacher. Students must complete this book alongside the teacher before moving forward with other material, such as additional books, learning songs, music theory, etc. The instructional book benefits students, as it teaches them the foundation of their instrument.

It is recommended that students purchase or bring their own 1" binder to each lesson. From time to time, students will be given handouts from the teacher which will be used as references during lessons. Please note, binders will not be provided to students by the teacher.

For guitar, bass guitar, and ukulele students, it is expected that you bring your own instrument to and from your lesson each week. A carrying case is highly recommended to avoid damage to your instrument during travel. Please keep a few picks in your carrying case, however, picks can be provided to you during your lesson. For students playing electric guitar and bass guitar, an amplifier and patch cable will be provided. If a guitar string breaks during your lesson, the teacher may provide an extra string and replace it during your lesson. If a replacement string is not provided, the student is expected to purchase a new string before their next lesson. It should be restrung before your next lesson, otherwise, the teacher will show you how to replace a string at the beginning of your next lesson.

For drum students, a drum kit and practice pad are provided to you during your lesson. No need to lug your whole kit around! It is highly recommended to have a drum kit and/or practice pad at home for daily practice. Please remember to bring a pair of drumsticks to each lesson, however, a pair of drumsticks can be provided to you for your lesson. Hearing protection is essential for drummers if they don't want to damage their hearing down the road. Your teacher will recommend different options during lesson time if you do not have hearing protection. Please bring hearing protection with you to each lesson as hearing protection will not be provided by the teacher. It is recommended, but not necessary that drum students purchase their own stick bag, which can be used to carry multiple pairs of drumsticks and other drum supplies, as well as make transportation to and from lessons much easier. The teacher will be responsible for any drum skin or cymbal damage that may occur during lessons.

For piano students, a keyboard is provided to you during your lesson. Silicone note tiles are also provided for quick and easy note reference. It is highly recommended to have your own piano or keyboard at home for daily practice. With multiple students sharing the same keyboard each week, please keep your hands clean at all times to prevent the spread of germs. Hand sanitizer is provided to you during your lessons if needed. To keep the lessons area clean and sickness-free, please wash your hands before you leave for your lesson, and when you return home. The keyboard used during lessons is sanitized at the end of each piano lesson.

Students in Composition must be proficient in at least one musical instrument in order to be eligible for instruction in composition. Your teacher will advise whether or not you need to bring or purchase any equipment necessary for your lessons. Romeo Music will provide a computer, a DAW, a recording interface, and other accessories necessary for recording. Please note that while your instructor will guide you in writing your original music, they are not writing a song for you. Please be aware and ready to actively participate with your own ideas and suggestions during composition sessions.

Lesson Frequency

It is recommended that students have one 30-minute lesson every week. A consistent lesson schedule alongside regular practice will guarantee quick results. It is recommended that students practice for at least 30 minutes every day if they want to see fast progress for their chosen instrument. Please note that the frequency of lessons for songwriting students may differ and be altered by your teacher using their best judgement. Other scheduling options such as lessons twice a week or once every two weeks are available, however, it is not recommended and is not the most efficient way to learn your instrument.

A hard copy of this form will be given to students, parents, or legal guardians to sign during their first lesson. Please read and acknowledge these policies and procedures prior to your first lesson in order to get the most out of your lesson time. For any questions regarding any of the above, please reach out at sammy@romeomusic.ca

Upon Arrival

Upon arrival, please contact your teacher letting them know you've arrived. (Text is preferred upon arrival). With back-to-back lessons and minimal studio space, please wait inside your vehicle or outside the lessons facility until your teacher has responded and let you inside. Parents or legal guardians of children who are not sitting in on the lesson, please make sure your child has safely made it inside before driving away.

Photos & Videos

Romeo Music may take photos or videos of students from time to time. Permission will be asked by the instructor to the student and parent or guardian (if the student is under the age of 18) each time a photo or video will be taking place. Photos and videos will be used for promotional purposes on the Romeo Music website and/or other social media platforms owned by Romeo Music. All photos and videos taken by Romeo Music are subject to copyright in its name. Students should feel no pressure to be a part of any photos and/or videos and reserve the right to not participate.

Updates & Changes

Romeo Music is entitled to update or change any of the policies and procedures listed above. Students, parents, or legal guardians may be notified of changes and will be asked to sign the updated version of the Policies and Procedures form during their next lesson.

Cancellations Without Notice

Lessons without cancellation notice will be forfeited. Make-up lessons may be offered under emergency circumstances only, but are not guaranteed due to time constraints.

Video Surveillance

For the protection of the student and Romeo Music, all activities are monitored and recorded by security cameras.

Merchandise Return Policy

Items eligible for return or exchange must be unworn and unwashed. Items must show no signs of damage or wear, and must have the original tags (if any) attached. Returns and exchanges can take place up to 30 days after the date of purchase. Refunds will be given using the same method of payment as on the date of purchase. Exchanges can be made on items of equal value. Please note, Romeo Music will not issue returns and exchanges on clearance or sale items.

Referral Opportunities

Romeo Music is a small, local, and proud independently owned business; inspired from being raised by an entrepreneurial family. Without the support of my amazing students and their parents and families, whom I have had the pleasure to meet and get to know along the way, Romeo Music would not be where it currently is, and would not have the opportunity to continue to grow. The passion I have for music and the satisfaction it brings me to share my knowledge and experiences is incredibly rewarding, and I would love to be able to continue to do so for the foreseeable future. This is where you come in!

For each new student that enrols with Romeo Music for regularly scheduled music lessons (beyond the trial period), and is referred by you, you will receive one free music lesson of the same duration as the newly referred student’s lessons. Please approach your instructor with any questions or if additional information is required regarding referral opportunities.

Parking

Upon arrival, please refrain from parking in the driveway. There are two curbside parking spaces - one on either side of the driveway, plus more a short walking distance further down and across the street. This helps alleviate any conflicts with family members who are often in and out of the house on a regular basis. If there are absolutely no parking spaces available on the street (which is incredibly rare), please send me a text message to let me know. If walking is an issue or a concern, I will be happy to make necessary accommodations.
